MOTOR SPORTS ROUNDUP: SCHECTER WINS IN TEXAS; DANICA 13TH.

Tomas Scheckter Tomas Scheckter (born September 21, 1980) is a South African racing driver, born in Monte Carlo, currently competing in the Indy Racing League and the A1 Grand Prix series. He is the son of 1979 Formula 1 World Champion Jody Scheckter and the nephew of racer Ian Scheckter.  edged Sam Hornish Jr. by half a car-length Saturday night, while Danica Patrick finished 13th - last on the lead lap - in the first Indy Racing League The Indy Racing League, better known as IRL, is the sanctioning body of a predominantly American based open-wheel racing series.

The League consists of two series, the premiere IndyCar Series
 event since her thrilling finish at the Indianapolis 500.

The 24-year-old Scheckter, who raced to his only other series victory in Michigan in 2002, became the first winner in a Chevrolet-powered car since Hornish won for Panther Racing, the team Scheckter now drives for, in the 2003 season finale.

After leading in each of her last two races and coming close to winning at Indy, Patrick was never a factor in the Bombardier Learjet 500. Instead, she gave up the spotlight to a pack of IRL veterans who put on another in a series of great side-by-side racing shows on the 1 1/2-mile Texas oval.

``It seems a lot like Homestead in March,'' she said, referring to her IRL debut, in which she ran well but back in the pack before getting caught up in a crash. ``It's a lot of side-by-side racing, and it's just something I have to get used to.''

--Waltrip back at the poles: Michael Waltrip ended a qualifying drought of 446 races by putting his Chevrolet in the top spot at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa. Waltrip got around the 2.5-mile triangular-shaped oval at 169.052 mph for his first pole since Michigan in 1991.

--Kvapil wins ARCA race: NASCAR NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing), organization that sanctions American stock-car races, est. 1948. It held its first race in Daytona Beach, Fla.  Nextel Cup regular Travis Kvapil got himself some extra track time in a tuneup for today's Pocono 500 with a victory in the ARCA series race.

Polesitter Kvapil took the lead for the final time with 27 laps to go and won by 2.017 seconds over six-time ARCA champion Frank Kimmel.

--Busch race postponedThe NASCAR Busch Series' Federated Connected and treated as one. See federated database and federated directories.  Auto Parts 300 was postponed because of rain Saturday at Nashville Superspeedway in Gladeville, Tenn., with series officials rescheduling the race for 10 a.m. today.

With qualifying also rained out, the field of 43 will line up according to points, placing series leader Carl Edwards on the pole.
