MOSIS Deal With Tanner EDA Cuts Cost, Delays and Risks in IC Development Through Provision of Free Foundry Design Kits.MARINA DEL REY, Calif. -- MOSIS MOSIS Metal Oxide Semiconductor Implementation System MOSIS Marine Corps Operating and Support Information System (US Marine Corps) MOSIS Micro-Optical Silicon System , a provider of low-cost prototyping and small volume production services for custom application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), has reached an agreement with Tanner EDA (1) (Electronic Design Automation) Using the computer to design, lay out, verify and simulate the performance of electronic circuits on a chip or printed circuit board. to provide foundry design kits free of charge to its customers. The kits, which can cost several thousands of dollars from some EDA vendors, enable engineers to move easily between different process technologies without having to create new process set-ups every time, thus accelerating chip development. At the same time using design kits can reduce the likelihood of design errors or yield issues. The kits are available for TSMC TSMC Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Ltd TSMC Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation TSMC Traffic Systems Management Center TSMC Toll Station Management Controller TSMC Transportation Supply Maintenance Command TSMC Technical Services Manager Code , AMS AMS - Andrew Message System , AMIS A·mis , Kingsley 1922-1995. British writer best known for his novels, including Lucky Jim (1954) and Jake's Thing (1978). and IBM processes down to 0.13 micron and include layer set ups, design rule and extraction definition files, paramaterizable cells, and schematic and physical libraries of standard devices. MOSIS estimates that Tanner EDA tools have been used to create over 30% of the 50,000 designs so far processed by customers via its multi-project wafer (MPW) service. The MOSIS MPW service enables several customers to share the total cost of a wafer lot, with each paying a proportion based on the physical area used by their design. Integrated device manufacturers (IDMs), fabless semiconductor companies and intellectual property (IP) developers use MPW services to prove their designs at minimum cost and risk. The same services can be used to produce hundreds of device samples for evaluation. Furthermore, with some processes wafers can be held prior to metallization Met`al`li`za´tion n. 1. Migration to a dedicated wafer run for high volume production is easily realized. About MOSIS: MOSIS is a low-cost prototyping and small-volume production service for VLSI VLSI: see integrated circuit. Since 1981, MOSIS has fabricated more than 50,000 circuit designs for commercial firms, government agencies, and research and educational institutions around the world. MOSIS provides designers with a single interface to the constantly changing technologies of the semiconductor industry. Mask generation, wafer fabrication, and device packaging are contracted to leading industry vendors. For more information about MOSIS, please visit www.mosis.com. |
