 MORRISON KNUDSEN SELECTS PITTSBURG, CALIF.,
 FOR RAIL-CAR MANUFACTURING SITE
BOISE, Idaho, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Morrison Knudsen Corp. (MK) (NYSE:MRN) announced today that it will establish an industrial facility for manufacturing rail cars at Contra Costa Industrial Park in Pittsburg in the San Francisco Bay Area. The location is a former U.S. Steel plant.
"We are extremely pleased to have found this site which will serve as our West Coast rail-car manufacturing facility," said William J. Agee, MK chairman and chief executive officer. "This prime location offers us a key vantage point for serving both domestic and foreign markets."
Renovation of the new facility will begin in June of 1993 and is expected to take four months to complete at a cost of more than $2 million.
In March, MK was selected by the Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) to manufacture 80 new transit cars, which will be built at the new facility. The value of the base contract is $141.6 million, with options for additional cars that could bring total production to 250 vehicles.
Earlier this year, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) awarded MK a $155-million contract to manufacture 88 new rail cars. This contract also will be carried out at the Pittsburg facility.
Morrison Knudsen Corp. is an international company serving the environmental, industrial process, power and transportation markets with complete development, design/engineering, construction, operating and financial services.
