MORE THAN 350 VINTAGE BUICKS GATHER FOR 90TH ANNIVERSARY MEET AND PARADE

FLINT, Mich., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Between 350 and 400 vintage Buicks are expected to be in Flint this weekend (Aug. 6-7) for a major regional meet of the Buick Club of America that will help Buick celebrate its 90th anniversary.
Bill Harris, Buick Club Great Lakes Regional Meet director and WJRT (Ch. 12) news anchor, said the show's major public events will be Saturday. The meet is sponsored by the club's Buicktown Chapter, Flint.
Buicks from 1905 to 1933 will be on free public display at the AutoWorld parking lot at North Saginaw Street and Fifth Avenue from about 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and AutoWorld will be open to the public without charge those hours, as well as from noon until 5 p.m. Friday. Harris said AutoWorld's IMAX theater will be showing the film "Speed," also without charge.
Most of the Buicks, led by the Sloan Museum's 1904 Model B replica and 1910 Buick Bug racer and the Buick-owned 1905 Model C, will participate in a parade through downtown Flint starting at 9:30 a.m. in the AutoWorld parking lot.
The parade's grand marshal is Buick General Manager Edward H. Mertz, who will ride in the Model C -- fourth-oldest-known existing Buick and first Buick ever sold in California.
Besides those cars, the oldest entered cars are two models from 1910 and two from 1911. Cars have been entered from Maryland, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, New York, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Georgia and Maine as well as Michigan. Canada is represented by entrants from Ontario and Manitoba and people from Australia and Finland also plan to attend.
Sarah Close, a granddaughter of Walter Marr, Buick's first chief engineer and builder of the first Buicks, will attend along with her husband, William. They are from Signal Mountain, Tenn., a town that Marr developed after retiring from Buick.
Co-authors Terry B. Dunham and Lawrence R. Gustin will autograph copies of their 90th anniversary edition of "The Buick: A Complete History" from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Flint Radisson Hotel lobby.
Mertz will be the main speaker at a banquet Saturday night at the Radisson.
Club members will participate in a number of events including Friday tours of Buick City, where LeSabres are built.
The club's Great Lakes Regional Meet is part of a big weekend for the Flint-headquartered Buick Motor Division. The Buick Open Golf Tournament in suburban Grand Blanc ends Sunday (Aug. 8). Also, Buick is a featured marque at the Concours d'Elegance show of exotic classic automobiles Sunday at Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester, Mich.
