``We ended the 2002-03 season with a surplus and in the black,'' said chairman Marc Stern. ``We're one of the few arts organizations maybe in the country that ended up in a positive fashion. We'll have over twice the amount of opera available here in Los Angeles and, I dare say, way over twice the quality.''

Sondheim's ``Night Music'' comes first, opening July 14. Director Scott Ellis and choreographer Susan Stroman guide a cast headlined by Irons, Stevenson and Marc Kudisch.

The season opens Sept. 8 with ``Idomeneo,'' a production of the Salzburg Festival that will represent the first time that Domingo and music director Nagano have worked together in Los Angeles. Domingo shares the role of Idomeneo with Allan Glassman. Netrebko shares the role of Ilia with Adriana Damato.

Next up is a new production of Richard Strauss' ``Ariadne Auf Naxos Ariadne auf Naxos (Ariadne on Naxos) is an opera by Richard Strauss with German libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal. ``Every year, every possible role, we offer Mr. Terfel,'' said Domingo. ``There is no piece we haven't asked him to do.''

Nagano also conducts the season-ending new production of Strauss' ``Der Rosenkavalier'' with director Maximilian Schell. The singers include Alice Coote, Adrianne Pieczonka, Kurt Rydl and Elizabeth Futral.
