MORE GOOD TIMES SEEN; ROBUST, IF SLOWER YEAR PREDICTED BY NEW FORECAST.

Byline: Cecilia Chan Daily News Staff Writer

More jobs, bigger paychecks and greater spending are expected as Ventura County heads into another robust year, although it could clip along at a slightly slower pace, a new economic forecast predicts.

The county's job market has rebounded from the early '90s recession like no other in the state, economist Mark Schniepp said Thursday at the sixth annual Ventura County Economic Forecast Seminar. He expects 1999 to remain solid in employment, income, and residential and tourist spending even as the economy could experience fallout from the nationwide slowdown.

``It's going to be a slowdown in employment and income growth and probably consumer spending Consumer demand or consumption is also known as personal consumption expenditure. It is the largest part of aggregate demand or effective demand at the macroeconomic level. , but for the most part it's going to be another good, solid year,'' said Schniepp, director of the University of California, Santa Barbara History

Despite the healthy growth of the county's economy, the latest survey of 120 firms indicates a growing concern with the business climate, worries stemming from changes in the stock market and the looming Y2K computer problem.

The survey showed only 56 percent of the respondents believe they are better off today than a year ago. Those who indicated they were worse off rose from 4 percent to 12 percent.

Major factors that contributed to a robust economy for Ventura County include unprecedented stock market returns and the ``steady expansion of manufacturing- and service-providing industries,'' according to according to
