Byline: Kirby Lee Special to the Daily News

The Moorpark College Moorpark College is a California-state funded community college located on a 134 acre (542,000 m²) property reclining on a hill in Moorpark, a town in Ventura County, California.  men's track and field team has carried its weight in the Western State Conference.

The four-time defending conference champion has won 77 consecutive dual meets and the 2003 state title, largely because of its throws program coached by Bob MacKay.

Moorpark finished sixth at last year's state meet with all 31 of its points coming from the hammer, discus and shot put. A Moorpark athlete has won the state title in the discus each of the past five years.

Moorpark, which has built a 10-0 record in three meets, two of them on the new all-weather, on-campus facility at Griffin Stadium, is strong in the weight events again this season.

Sophomore Colin Veldman, a transfer from Utah State, won the hammer and discus at the Cerritos Invitational in Norwalk, with most of the Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. The Raiders took three of the top four spots in the hammer, with Veldman and sophomores Tommy Sugishita and Kyle Sherry. Freshman Robert Hogan Robert Hogan can refer to:

Freshman pole-vaulter Josh Lubeck, from Royal High, finished second at last year's state high school championships with a career-best 16 feet. Freshmen Kevin Galley and Corey Gosser have cleared 14 feet this season. Sophomore Jason Napoleon, a running back on the football team competing in college track for the first time, could give Moorpark points in the long and triple jumps.

``You can't really think about the streak, or you would go crazy,'' Moorpark coach Doni Green said.

Green will be studying the dope sheets before Moorpark's April 1 home meet against Bakersfield, Cuesta cuesta (kwĕs`tə), asymmetric ridge characterized by a short, steep escarpment on one side, and a long, gentle slope on the other. Bakersfield, the 2004 WSC runner-up, likely will be Moorpark's top conference challenger this season.

The Moorpark women finished fourth in conference last season after finishing second in 2002 and 2003. The Raiders are led by freshman Tai Battle, who won the hammer and discus at the Cerritos Invitational.

Moorpark has been without sophomore Caren Sperry, a Simi Valley High graduate, because of injury. Sperry was fourth at 1,500 meters at the 2004 state meet, and she finished fourth at the state cross country championships last fall.
