The oral Super Quiz is only a small portion of the 10-subject decathlon, but one of the few events open to the public. The students also took a written portion of the quiz behind closed doors. The national champion will be announced today, when results from the remaining nine events are tabulated. ``I think we did well,'' said Max Geiger, 17, one of nine members on the Moorpark team. ``It just remains to be seen whether we won the whole enchilada or not.'' More than 330 students from 37 states have been competing since Thursday - taking written exams in mathematics, social science, economics, language and literature, art and music, as well as writing an essay, giving speeches and being interviewed by judges. The oral Super Quiz was the last competition event. Moorpark has done well enough that three of its team members - Yagi, Ideal and Scott - were invited to present their speeches at a special speech showcase with nine other students Friday night. Yagi's speech was on ``Winnie-the-Pooh,'' Ideal's was about putting a face on statistics, and Scott spoke on puzzles and chameleons. Scott said the Friday night event represented the first time Moorpark students have participated in the speech showcase. It was a significant accomplishment because the subjective categories, including speech, were what cost the team a win last year.
