At 5-foot-11, 198 pounds during the season, Brogdon was a key player on the Musketeers' Southern Section Division X championship team at linebacker and fullback. He was originally ruled unable to play in 1997 after sitting out most of the 1996 season with a spinal injury. Doctors initially felt the injury was serious enough to end his football career, but Brogdon consulted with a specialist, and was cleared to resume playing.
