With one runner on, Amber Mastriano doubled to drive in Oli Keohohou giving the Panthers (8-1, 2-1) their first run. Mastriano advanced on the next play off a fielding error and scored the Panthers' second run on an error by Moorpark's Michelle Willette. Mastriano went 2 for 3 with two doubles. She was Newbury Park's only batter to have more than one hit. ``I think it's important to start off well and show the other team what you're about,'' said Mastriano. ``The first batter getting on base and being able to execute plays was important for us.'' The Musketeers (3-4, 0-2) struggled at the plate. They had only one hit and that came in the top of the seventh inning when Willette tripled. Panthers' pitcher Katie Stokx (4-1) did a good job of minimizing Moorpark's opportunities to get on base. She finished with six strikeouts and three walks. ``Defensively we were fine, offensively we didn't hit as well today,'' said Moorpark coach Kathy Nash. ``We weren't as focused as I would've liked us to be. We're a great late-game team and we need to move that up and be great from the beginning to the end. With the first inning taken away, it's just a different game. ``Newbury Park is a great team and it capitalizes on mistakes. It just wasn't there for us today and sometimes that's the way it is.''
