 MONTGOMERY WARD AWARDS $30 MILLION TELECOMMUNICATIONS CONTRACT TO MCI
 RYE BROOK, N.Y., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: MCIC) has been selected by Montgomery Ward and Company, Inc., one of the nation's largest retailers, to provide a variety of telecommunications services. The three-year agreement is valued at an estimated $30 million.

"MCI continues to provide us with a wide range of high-quality telecommunications services that meet the specific communication and business needs of our nationwide network."
 Montgomery Ward will use MCI's Vnet, a virtual private network service, to connect its corporate headquarters in Chicago and more than 350 stores nationally as well as the MCI Vnet Card, which makes remote calling more manageable and cost-effective. MCI will also provide 800 Service for inbound customer service and employee inventory information applications, and MCI Prism I for telemarketing applications.

 Montgomery Ward Inc. is one of the nation's largest retail merchandising organizations, operating over 350 stores in 39 states. The privately-held retailer has achieved record earnings in three of the last four years since its successful leveraged buyout in 1988.
 MCI, with 1991 revenue of approximately $9.5 billion, is the nation's second-largest long distance carrier. MCI offers residential and business customers an array of voice and data services made possible through a world wide digital telecommunications network.
