MONTANA POWER INTERIM INCREASE APPROVED

BUTTE, Mont., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Montana Public Service Commission (PSC), on a 5-0 vote, today authorized an interim increase of $12.8 million in annual revenues for the Montana Power Co.'s (NYSE: MTP) electric and natural gas utilities, effective for service rendered on and after Oct. 18, the company announced.
The PSC approved increases of $8.8 million in electric revenues and $4.0 million in natural gas revenues, based on an 11.25 percent return on equity (ROE), as recommended by the PSC staff last week.
MTP originally requested increases of $21.0 million and $8.0 million, respectively, based on the 12.1 percent ROE which had been authorized in its last rate case.
Interim revenue increases in the Montana jurisdiction are granted subject to rebate, depending on the commission's final decision in a pending rate case. The PSC is expected to issue a final order in the current case in late March 1994.
