MONTANA POWER FILES FOR REVENUE INCREASES

 BUTTE, Mont., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Montana Power Co. (NYSE: MTP) today filed with the Montana Public Service Commission (MPSC) requests for a total of $46.5 million in revenue increases for its electric and natural gas utility systems. The filing included a $29.1-million interim revenue increase request which, if granted, would be subject to refund.
 The electric utility request is for an annual increase of $36.2 million, or 11.4 percent, with $21 million to be implemented on an interim basis this fall. An overall return of 10.05 percent and a return on equity of 12.5 percent was requested for Montana Power's electric operations.
 In its natural gas filing, the company asked for an annual revenue increase of $10.3 million, or 10.7 percent, with $8.1 million to be implemented on an interim basis; an overall return of 10.32 percent; and 12.5-percent return on equity.
 On the basis of prior actions by the MPSC, an order for interim rate relief could be expected in August or September, and a final order in about nine months.
