The offensive line's performance was not surprising to interim head coach Don Senegal. In fact, ``it is expected of this group.''

``They are our heart and soul,'' Senegal said, ``everything on this team starts with the offensive line.''

The members of the Vikings' offense who performed so well were seniors Mark Gabrelli, Gerrado Barajas and Pedro Lomeli and juniors Rocco Cuccia and Gabriel Burgos.

Monroe's defense made the only big play of the first half, knocking the ball free from Fontamillas at its 1-yard line with linebacker Rudy Wilshire recovering to stop the Eagles' scoring chance.

The Vikings made the turnover count, taking the first lead of the game on a 99-yard, nine-play drive keyed by a 43-yard pass reception to Gabrelli and culminating in quarterback Alaimo's 19-yard run.

The half ended on Eagle Rock defensive back William Rodriguez's interception in the end zone to stop the Vikings with the scored tied at 28.

``Making a few changes at halftime, our defense played with a lot more emotion in the second half,'' Senegal said, ``which helped turn the tide.''

The Vikings had three players rush for over 100 yards. Joining Walker was Garcia, carrying 17 times for 114 yards and Alaimo keeping the ball on the option 16 times for 128 yards.
