MOMS CONNECT FOR HELP, FUN, CIVIC SERVICE; CLUB MEMBERS EXCHANGE IDEAS, BABY-SITTING.Byline: Paul O'Donoghue Staff Writer They rely on one another for baby-sitting services. They cook dinner for moms busy with newborns. They swap child-rearing information. In an era when family means many things, the Moorpark Moms Connection provides mothers with an extended group of peers ready to help out with motherhood. ``The No. 1 goal is to offer mothers support, both people who've been mothers for years and first-time mothers,'' said club founder Julie Weisberger, a mother of two. ``It's basically to provide a framework for them to feel at home or, if they have children who need baby-sitting . . ., we can help. Or it gives them friends and opportunities to volunteer or get involved with local activities or events.'' The club was founded a year ago when members decided to break away from the national organization. Membership has since grown from 90 to 137 moms, mostly ones with school-age children. The club meets monthly to conduct business, but day-to-day activities are at the heart of the organization. Members arrange play groups with their children, and they trade baby-sitting services. They help out when a member is ill. They organize outings to museums and parks. They deliver three consecutive meals to families busy with newborns. In their play groups, members' own children help with the baskets. ``The children decorate them with their handprints and pictures of themselves or pictures they draw, and the elderly people just love them,'' Weisberger said.
