MOMIX on the moon.


Is there life on the moon? Yes, if you go there with MOMIX. Artistic director Moses Pendleton Moses Pendleton is the Choreographer and Artistic Director of Momix a company of dancer-illusionists that formed as an offshoot of Pilobolus which he had co-founded in 1971. He was a Guggenheim Fellow in 1977 and the Positano Choreographic Award in 1999.  takes us on a trip to the moon in his latest full-evening work, Lunar Sea. It takes off at MOMIX's season at the Joyce Theater The Joyce Theater is a 472-seat dance performance venue located in the Chelsea area of the borough of Manhattan in New York City. The Joyce Theater Foundation, the organization founded in 1982 that operates the theater, also owns the Joyce SoHo dance center located in a , May 10-29. Gravity-defying mooniacs drift and multiply, shimmer and disappear like the phases of the moon in this mythic re-imagining of the celestial orb. Forget the Apollo missions The Apollo missions were a series of space missions, both manned and unmanned, flown by NASA between 1961 and 1975. They culminated with a series of manned moon landings between 1969 and 1972. , Pendleton's vision follows in the tradition of Georges Melies' charming 1902 film, A Trip to the Moon. The lunar locals include puppets designed by Michael Curry, who co-designed puppets and masks for The Lion King on Broadway. Pendleton's company celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. His last full-length work Opus Cactus, which explored desert terrain and features four men as one slithering slith·er
