His mother died in 1984, leaving a void in Doswell's life, but he filled it with his dream of one day becoming a fashion designer. Today, he's taking the first steps toward making that dream come true. Currently, Doswell sells sweat shirts, T-shirts, jeans and jean jackets with the Betty Jean emblem on them. Doswell's friend Jorge Ramirez created the emblem design. Doswell purchases the items from a wholesaler and the Betty Jean graphic designs are placed on them. Now Doswell wants to actually produce clothes, hoping to make good on the promise he made to his mother when she was ill -- that her name would one day be known around the world in the fashion industry. Doswell began selling his clothes to his co-workers at Tierra del Sol and at the fitness center where he works out. He said he's received lots of support from his work supervisor, Teresa Rothsam. A portion of the proceeds he receives from clothing sales goes to breast cancer research, in memory of his mother. He also began marketing his brand in a rather unique way. He began rapping about fashion during open-mic sessions at a Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. nightclub. He's seeing his clothing sales grow outside the Valley. ``We're making our first shipment to send to Portland, Ore.,'' Doswell said. His brother and sister-in-law have a clothing store there and they plan to sell the Betty Jean items. The next shipment will be to Houston, where his uncle lives. He has friends who have clothing stores there. The most important thing for Doswell is that he's seeing the dream he shared with his mother starting to come true - one garment at a time.
