MOLSON BREWERIES COMPLETES INSPECTION OF PRODUCTS

TORONTO, Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Molson Breweries confirmed today that it has completed an inspection with its Quebec distribution network of bottles that were produced on a previously malfunctioning piece of equipment on a bottling line at the Montreal brewery.
"Over the past twelve days, we have examined millions of bottles produced on a specific line and for sale at retail and licensed outlets across Quebec," said J. Bruce Pope, president and CEO, of Molson Breweries.
"While we've inspected every bottle we could, we are continuing to ask Quebec consumers who previously bought 6 and 24-packs to visually inspect any bottles they may have in their possession for a dark and opaque liquid which significantly differs from the usual golden color of beer," he added.
Mr. Pope also confirmed that Molson would continue to operate its toll-free hotline (800-565-MOLSON in Quebec, 800-565-8800 in the rest of Canada) to deal with any outstanding consumer inquiries over the next few weeks.
The voluntary program, which began July 30, was initiated by Molson in consultation with Health and Welfare Canada. Since the inspection program began, hundreds of Molson employees and external resources have visited Quebec outlets around the clock to inspect all Molson brands. During the inspection, only four additional affected bottles were identified.
A further inspection was carried out in the Maritimes and no affected bottles were found. The malfunctioning piece of equipment has been corrected and all bottling lines are now operating 100 per cent effectively.
Mr. Pope thanked consumers, customers, retailers, employees, distributors, and federal health authorities for their cooperation over the past two weeks.
"Although this is an isolated incident," he added, "we want to ensure consumers that Molson has, and will continue to maintain, rigid quality standards that reflect our 207 year brewing excellence tradition."
