MOLASSES IS SECRET INGREDIENT FOR DELICIOUS PORK 'N BEANS
HONEY BROOK, Pa., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- No summer picnic is complete without a delicious crock of pork 'n beans.
And, according to Honey Brook-based Good Food, Inc., no crock of pork 'n beans is quite as delicious as one which includes a healthy helping of unsulfured baking molasses.
Unsulfured molasses, the finest quality molasses, is juice extracted from sugar cane, boiled, filtered and evaporated to the consistency of a sweet, mellow syrup. Rich brown in color and uniquely sweet in taste, unsulfured molasses is an excellent choice for the quality-conscious cook.
Good Food, Inc., producers of Golden Barrel Products, offers the following recipe for baked beans:
 BAKED BEANS
4 cups (2 lb.) dried beans 1/2 cup Golden Barrel Unsulfured
 Cold water Baking Molasses
1 large onion 1/2 tsp. pepper
4 tsp. salt 2 tsp. dry mustard
1/2 cup catsup 3/4 cup brown sugar (optional)
 1/2 lb. salt pork
Wash beans. Cover generously with cold water; soak overnight. Add onion, salt and, if necessary, additional water to cover beans; bring to boiling point in covered saucepan. Remove onion. Simmer until beans are tender. Drain; save 3 cups bean liquid (add additional water to make 3 cups, if necessary). Mix bean liquid with catsup, Golden Barrel Unsulfured Baking Molasses, pepper, mustard and brown sugar, if desired. Pour beans, onion and salt pork into bean pot. Add liquid mixture. Cover. Bake at 325 F for 1-3/4 hours. Uncover. Lift pork to top of beans; bake 20 to 25 minutes to brown pork. Yield: 16 servings.
Old Fashioned Baked Beans: Simmer only until beans are half done (skins break). Bake at 300 F for 6 to 8 hours.
The Golden Barrel product line, which is available by mail order, includes syrups, sugar, molasses, cooking oils, funnel cake mix, shoofly pie mix and pancake and waffle mix. To order a Golden Barrel Recipe Booklet or a brochure on Golden Barrel Products, call 800-633-2676.
