MOBIL WILL PRODUCE MICROWAVE FOOD CONTAINERS

FAIRFAX, Va., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobil Chemical Company said today that it is expanding its rigid plastics packaging plant in Texas to produce microwaveable containers for prepared foods sold by supermarkets and other retail food outlets.
The new operations will be housed in an existing structure at Mobil Chemical's plant site in Temple, Texas, and will provide up to 50 new jobs. Production is scheduled to begin by mid-1994.
"The new microwaveable containers are convenient for customers who want to take prepared foods home and put them right into a microwave oven without removing them from the package," Tom DeVito, plant manager, said. "They are a natural extension of our present line of clear plastic containers, widely used by bakers, confectioners and food processors."
Both the base and lid for the new containers will be manufactured at the new facility. Results of test marketing programs indicate broad consumer acceptance of the microwaveable containers when used by deli departments to package cooked or barbecued chicken.
