MOBIL AND PERTAMINA COOPERATE ON EHS TECHNOLOGY

FAIRFAX, Va., April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobil Corporation (NYSE: MOB) said today it has created a new subsidiary to assist PERTAMINA, the Indonesian government-owned oil company, in establishing a world-class environmental, health and safety (EHS) program.
Mobil EHS Inc. will train PERTAMINA employees in the U.S. over the next two years in four separate sessions. These EHS professionals will include environmental specialists, medical doctors and loss prevention/safety engineers.
EHS training will be at Mobil's Research, Engineering and Environmental Affairs' headquarters in Princeton, N.J., and will include about 25 courses conducted by Mobil and outside consultants. This will be combined with on-the-job training in various Mobil operating divisions, with the jobs matched to each trainee's needs. There will be a number of environmental, safety and industrial hygiene/health courses covering such topics as environmental engineering, process safety management and workplace health protection fundamentals.
Field trips will be conducted to Mobil facilities so the trainees will be able to see how Mobil's policies and programs are actually implemented to minimize company losses and produce a safer workplace and cleaner environment.
Mobil EHS Inc. has a core staff based in Princeton, N.J., plus two employees on assignment to PERTAMINA's new EHS group in Jakarta to advise, develop and implement EHS activities there. Throughout the two- year period, Mobil engineers and specialists will be "borrowed" from other Mobil departments to provide technical service to assist PERTAMINA in implementing its EHS programs.
PERTAMINA selected Mobil to provide these services based in part on its more than 20 years of experience with Mobil Oil Indonesia Inc., an exploration and producing affiliate, and Mobil's reputation for EHS excellence.
