Galaxy update: L.A., which beat New England in the 2002 final, is playing in its fifth MLS Cup in 10 seasons and seeks its second title. The Galaxy, which captured the U.S. Open Cup title, has played exceptionally in the playoffs following an inconsistent regular season and are the lowest-seeded team - fourth in the West, eighth overall - to reach the MLS championship game. Forward Landon Donovan, who has scored four playoff goals (and 17 in all competitions), is the catalyst for the Galaxy. He's scored three goals in two previous finals, leading San Jose to titles in 2001 and 2003. Rookie Herculez Gomez, has netted 21 goals in all competitions. Winger Cobi Jones, a former Westlake High and UCLA star, will be the third player to appear in five MLS finals. Captain Peter Vagenas, who played at St. Francis of La Canada Flintridge and UCLA, is the key player in the middle. The backline is anchored by Tyrone Marshall but is strongest on the wings, with national-teamer Chris Albright on the right and Todd Dunivant on the left.

Revolution update: The Eastern Conference champs have the best attack in the league, with MVP and scoring champion Taylor Twellman (17 regular-season goals) teaming up front with Pat Noonan, supported by central midfielders Clint Dempsey (10 goals, 9 assists) and Shalrie Joseph and winger Steve Ralston. Twellman is a prodigious finisher with a knack for scoring late, timely goals. The loss of Marshall Leonard, with a hamstring strain, and Avery John, to World Cup qualifying, saps the Revs' depth, but Rookie of the Year Michael Parkhurst leads a solid defense backed by goalie Matt Reis, who starred at UCLA. New England, playing in its second final, started strong, endured an indifferent stretch midseason and finished 17-7-8, first in the East.
