Chivas was on the scoreboard less than fiveminutes into the match. Not seeing an immediate opportunity, Razov kicked a beautiful ball across the New York net to Sacha Kljestan, who received it near the end line about 30 feet from the net. Kljestan then sent a centering pass to Galindo, who, from less than 20 feet out, booted the ball into the left corner past Red Bulls goalkeeper Ronald Waterreus, who had no chance to make the save.

"I think Maykel is a very talented player," Chivas coach Preki said. "He is very dynamic and I think he still has another level to go."

Galindo gave Chivas a 2-0 lead on an unassisted goal after receiving a long clearance from the back. Galindo took the ball away from a New York defender who had briefly dribbled the ball, and came in all alone on Waterreus. From about 30 feet, and to the left of Waterreus, Galindo booted the ball into the left corner. Waterreus got a hand on it, but not enough to make the save.
