In Palmdale, the Los Angeles-based Lula Washington Youth Dance Ensemble A group of dancers preforming under a common name: the dance equivalent of a band. Examples would be Riverdance and Shuvani. will perform a Martin Luther King Jr. Day program at 5 p.m. Monday at the Palmdale Playhouse, 38334 10th St. E. Admission is free, but tickets are required. Tickets can be picked up beginning at 3 p.m. Monday at the Playhouse. Youth Dance Ensemble members are students of the Lula Washington Dance Theatre, which was founded in 1980 and has become one of the largest African-American dance companies in the western U.S. Twenty dancers aged 10 to 17 will be performing a program of gospel, African and modern dance at the Palmdale event.
