MLK DAY CHANCE TO VOLUNTEER.

For Angelenos looking to ``take a day on, not a day off'' and volunteer on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, there are plenty of things to sign up for.

Irene Lopez of the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Conservation Corps, an organization that works with at-risk-kids through its Clean and Green Program, said her organization will be focused on the Northeast Valley this year.

She said 20 homes of elderly residents in Pacoima, Sylmar and Sunland will be spruced up by teens in the Clean and Green program and other volunteers.

``They'll be doing things that the seniors can't do anymore,'' Lopez said, such as clearing dry vegetation that poses a fire hazard fire hazard fire n that's a fire hazard → das ist feuergefährlich

Those interested in participating in any of these can register Monday morning at the Alicia Broadous-Duncan Multipurpose Center, located at 11300 Glenoaks Blvd. in Pacoima at 7:30 a.m. There will be a free lunch following the day of service.
