MK TO SUPPLY COMMUTER LOCOMOTIVES TONORTH SAN DIEGO COUNTY TRANSIT DEVELOPMENT BOARD

BOISE, Idaho, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- A $9-million contract to supply five locomotives for a commuter line providing passenger service from Oceanside, Calif., to San Diego has been awarded to Morrison Knudsen Corp. (NYSE: MRN) by the North San Diego County Transit Development Board, the company said today.
The work for the San Diego County-based agency will begin immediately at MK's Boise Locomotive Operations. Completion is scheduled for the second quarter of 1994.
The commuter locomotives will include MK-designed wide body, comfort cabs. These will be the first locomotives in the United States to be equipped with MK's state-of-the-art microprocessor-based control system.
MK's microprocessor system, an advanced digital locomotive control unit, was designed to improve locomotive performance and reduce operating costs. This system eliminates most control relays and associated wiring and replaces them with microprocessor technology.
