MIVT is developing a new generation of coating applications based on Hydroxyapatite hydroxyapatite /hy·droxy·ap·a·tite/ (-ap´ah-tit) an inorganic calcium-containing constituent of bone matrix and teeth, imparting rigidity to these structures.  (HAp), an organically derived substance, well known and widely used in dentistry and orthopedics. The Company's proprietary HAp-based drug delivery nano- and micro-technology is well suited for use as a therapeutic coating for a variety of orthopedic implants.

Dr. Tom Troczynski, Ph.D, Vice President of Coating Technologies of MIVT, will for the first time present the Company's R&D progress in orthopedics, at the upcoming World Orthopedic Organization (SICOT) conference in Buenos Aires, on August 24, 2006.

"While HAp is known to improve the integration of hip and knee implants with bone, particularly in the critical early several-week period after implantation, MIVT's proprietary drug-carrying coatings may provide further significant impact on post-implant success rates," said Dr. Troczynski. "MIVT's nano-drug-elution technology may have significant impact on implantation protocols, and post-implantation success rate for patients receiving hip and knee implants, as well as spinal devices."

According to industry analysts, the 2006 orthopedic device market will total an estimated $23.2 billion worldwide. MIVT's technologies address products used in the reconstructive and spinal segments of this market, representing approximately $16 billion.
