     MITSUBISHI MOTORS POSTS 27 PERCENT SALES INCREASE FOR OCTOBER;
                    MILLIONTH VEHICLE SALE IMMINENT
    CYPRESS, Calif., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- On the eve of the company's one-millionth vehicle sale, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. (MMSA) announced total sales for the month of October at 16,700 vehicles, representing a 27 percent increase over the same period last year.
    "It is encouraging to see our business improve over last year during an otherwise soft automobile market," said Kevin Ormes, vice president of sales. "As we prepare to celebrate our millionth sale and tenth anniversary for Mitsubishi Motors, it is fitting that we had a strong sales month during October."
    Ormes said that the Galant model led the product line by recording a 53 percent increase from last year and an annual sales pace exceeding 50,000 units. In recent months, the Galant has proven to be a strong performer followed closely by the U.S.-built Eclipse model.
    The Eclipse and four-door Mirage models are both built at Mitsubishi's Diamond-Star Motors manufacturing plant in Normal, Ill. In total, domestically built Mitsubishi products account for 40 percent of the company's year-to-date U.S. sales.
    Mitsubishi's new luxury model, Diamante, demonstrated continued success with a 26 percent increase over last month's sales figure, while the recently introduced Expo model volume jumped 69 percent. Expo LRV posted a 16 percent gain during the same period.
    Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc., was established in 1982 by Mitsubishi Motors Corp., Tokyo and markets a full line of subcompacts, compacts, sports coupes, grand touring sports cars, luxury performance sedans, sport wagons, light trucks and sport/utility vehicles.
