MITSUBISHI MOTORS ENDS YEAR WITH SALES INCREASE,
CONTINUES MOMENTUM WITH ALL-NEW PRODUCTS FOR 1992
CYPRESS, Calif., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. (MMSA) met one of the most challenging years in automotive history with a total vehicle sales increase of .03 percent for the calendar year, representing sales of 190,801 units despite fierce competition and a shrinking market for overall car sales.
"The combination of strong marketing and strong products has given Mitsubishi the momentum to stay ahead during this tumultuous time," said Kevin Ormes, vice president of sales. "We've focused on niche segments and successfully meet the needs of the consumer with quality, value and performance."
Last year's introduction of the Diamante established Mitsubishi Motors' recognition and image in the upscale luxury arena while the launch of the Expo and Expo LRV sport wagons expanded the company's capability to meet the changing needs of young families.
Ormes noted that while new 1992 model introductions such as the Diamante and Expo were highlights during the past year, the domestically built Eclipse and popular Galant four-door sedan were the year's strongest sellers. Domestically built products for the company currently include the Eclipse and Mirage four-door, with year-to-date sales reaching 69,496 units and representing a 39 percent increase from a year earlier. Passenger car sales alone for the entire Mitsubishi product line were up 6 percent, reaching 172,218 units.
Mitsubishi's newest offering for 1992 will be the redesigned Montero sport/utility vehicle, with sales expected to reach between 8,000 and 10,000 units for the year.
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. was established in 1982 by Mitsubishi Motors Corp., Tokyo, and markets a full line of subcompacts, compacts, sports coupes, grand touring sports cars, luxury performance sedans, sport wagons, light trucks and sport/utility vehicles.
