MITSUBISHI MOTORS CREATES ALL-NEW FRANCHISE DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT: EMPHASIS ON DEALER SUPPORT BRINGS NEW ORGANIZATION TO COMPANY

CYPRESS, Calif., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- In an effort to reinforce the strength and profitability of its dealer network and to better serve customers, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. (MMSA) today announced a major restructuring of the company, with the creation of a new department -- Franchise Development -- and the reorganization of three other departments.
Under this new organization, six key departments including Franchise Development, Sales, Parts, Marketing Services, Service and Customer Satisfaction and Corporate Administration, will report directly to Richard D. Recchia, executive vice president and chief operating officer for MMSA.
"The key component of our corporate vision is a strong and profitable dealer network committed to customer satisfaction," said Recchia. "Through this reorganization we intend to fulfill that vision with concrete actions that result in an increasingly profitable dealer network and a growing body of satisfied Mitsubishi customers."
According to Recchia, the most innovative portion of the plan is the creation of the franchise development department, to be headed by Rick Lepley, a senior vice president. Recchia stated that the new department's goal is to develop a stronger, more profitable dealer body.
The franchise development department is structured to focus its efforts on: identifying locations for dealerships; developing programs to enhance dealer profitability; stimulating key markets to enhance sales; and developing a Mitsubishi Market Investment Program to provide working capital to qualified dealer applicants, particularly minority candidates.
The goal of the reorganized sales department is to increase sales through special emphasis on core products and key metropolitan markets. Vice President of Sales Kevin Ormes, who heads the department, noted that Sales has been restructured to become more responsive to dealer needs by reducing two levels of reporting between the dealers and MMSA headquarters.
The marketing services department, headed by Frances Oda as director, will concentrate on building a stronger corporate and product image for Mitsubishi Motors nationally.
Tom Benson, as vice president, service and customer satisfaction, will oversee the consolidation of MMSA's efforts to improve customer satisfaction with Mitsubishi products and the sales experience at Mitsubishi dealerships, as well as long-term customer retention.
"I am convinced that through this reorganization we are positioning Mitsubishi Motors for strong and consistent growth in the American market at a time when the economy shows signs of recovery," said Recchia. "I am confident that our dealers, as well as customers, will benefit from these efforts to serve them better."
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. was established in 1982 by Mitsubishi Motors Corp., Tokyo, and markets a full line of subcompacts, sports coupes, grand touring sports cars, luxury performance sedans, sport wagons, light trucks and sport utility vehicles.
