MITCHELL COMPLETES NEW MEXICO FIELD EXTENSION WELL

THE WOODLANDS, Texas, May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitchell Energy & Development Corp. (NYSE: MND.A, MND.B) today announced it has extended the boundaries of the Quail Ridge Morrow Field of southwestern New Mexico with the completion of a natural gas producer in Lea County.
The Redhawk "32" State No. 1 tested at a daily rate of 2.7 million cubic feet of gas and 225 barrels of condensate on an 26/64-inch choke with 4,280 pounds per square inch of flowing tubing pressure. Perforations were between 13,298 feet and 13,338 feet in the Morrow formation of the Quail Ridge Morrow Field. Mitchell's working interest in the well is 100 percent.
The company noted it has identified other potential producing zones both in the Morrow and at shallower depths and said the company is likely to drill additional wells in the area.
For the past four years, Mitchell has actively pursued oil and gas acquisitions in the Lea and Eddy County areas of southeastern New Mexico in conjunction with its successful drilling program there. The company currently has approximately 86,500 gross acres of leases in the two counties.
Mitchell Energy & Development Corp. is among the nation's largest independent producers of natural gas, natural gas liquids and oil. The company also is a major real estate developer in the Houston-Galveston area. Its shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbols MND A and MND B.
