A helicopter began the initial search while a ground search and rescue team, made up primarily of reserve deputies, was called in. Deputies reported that the snow in the area was knee-deep, and the helicopter was hampered by wind and clouds cloaking the mountains. Searchers clad in winter gear set out along two trails leading out of the parking lot.
