MIRANDA'S MESSAGE CARMEN'S NIECE AIDS FUND-RAISER FOR VICTIMS.

Byline: Bettie Rencoret Staff Writer

LANCASTER - Miranda Miranda has the persona to attract notice wherever she goes, just like her aunt, Carmen Miranda.

That was witnessed recently when she appeared at a benefit for the American National Red Cross.

Miranda Miranda, like her aunt, wears heavy makeup and moves with that same flare for rhythm, sometimes using castanets castanets (kăs'tənĕts`), percussion instruments known to the ancient Egyptians and Greeks, possibly of Middle Eastern origin, now used primarily in Spanish dance music or imitations of it.  to enhance her delivery. Unlike her aunt, Miranda Miranda has a long, wild, carefree hairstyle. She is also much taller and her skirts are mini.

The benefit concert, held in the wake of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, was the spontaneous bid of the two professional bands to make a statement in support of the victims.

Members of the Paparazzi included Roger Neuman on soprano sax, Michael D. Luckinbill, lead guitar and singer, Tony Scaglioni, accordion and acoustic guitar, Reuben Gutierrez, bass guitar and Tony Zazzarino, drums. Michael D., who shaves his head, dresses in all black, complete with black hat and floor-length black coat, also happens to be the principal of Tropico Middle School in Rosamond.

Beverly Jensen's group, sometimes referred to as the Music Connection, is a group of professional senior musicians who perform every third Saturday night from 6 to 9 p.m.

The lineup includes vocalist Jensen, John Leys, her husband, on trombone trombone [Ital.,=large trumpet], brass wind musical instrument of cylindrical bore, twice bent on itself, having a sliding section that lengthens or shortens it and thus regulates the pitch. The descendant of the sackbut, it was developed in the 15th cent. ; Mike Earls, bass; Ed Lloyd, piano; and Loren Dexheimer, drums.
