Revenue for the fourth quarter of fiscal 1999 was $17.8 million, an increase of $6.8 million or 62 percent compared with the same quarter a year ago. Contract revenue increased by $6.5 million over the comparable period in 1998 due to fees generated from licensing agreements.

Income before taxes for the fourth quarter of fiscal 1999 was $7.6 million compared with $4.6 million for the same quarter a year ago. The company recorded a provision for income taxes of $3.0 million for the fourth quarter of fiscal 1999. No provision for income taxes was recorded for periods prior to the completion of the company's initial public offering in July 1998. Net income for the fourth quarter of fiscal 1999 was $4.6 million compared to $4.6 million for the same quarter a year ago. The diluted net income per share for the fourth quarter of fiscal 1999 was $0.12 compared to $0.13 for the same quarter a year ago. On a proforma basis, the tax affected net income and diluted net income per share for the fourth fiscal quarter of 1998 would have been $2.8M and $0.08, respectively.

"I am pleased with our financial performance for our first fiscal year as a public company," said Casey Eichler, chief financial officer. "The fourth quarter provided solid financial results, and we successfully completed a secondary offering of approximately $220 million of common stock."

Total revenue for fiscal year 1999 grew 26% to a record $71.7 million, when compared to revenue of $56.8 million in fiscal 1998. Contract revenue increased by $11.5 million to $12.3 million and accounted for 17% of total revenue for fiscal 1999 compared to 1% in fiscal 1998. Net income for fiscal 1999 was $22.7 million compared to $376,000 for fiscal 1998. Diluted net income per share was $0.58 for fiscal 1999 compared to $0.01 for fiscal 1998.

- Philips Semiconductors moves to volume production of the integrated MIPS-based(TM) MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video.
