MINOLTA-QMS Introduces High-Productivity Color Laser Printer for Small- and Mid-Size Business Workgroups.

Business Editors/Technology Writers

MOBILE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 10, 2000

The New magicolor 2200 Combines Leading Technologies

From the MINOLTA-QMS Partnership

Highlights

-- The magicolor(R) 2200 Print System offers the most in color

printing productivity with the speed, quality and document

handling features that provide the essentials of imaging for

today's office workgroups.
-- This letter/A4 network color laser printer produces up to 20 black-and-white
pages and five color pages per minute. It has an auto-sensing Ethernet(R)
(10/100BaseTX) network interface and supports multiple printer languages
simultaneously, including PostScript(R), PCL(R) 6 and PDF, to service diverse
network environments.

-- Unique to the magicolor 2200 is its choice of document handling options,
including automatic duplexing, addressable mailbins, higher-volume paper input
and digital copying and scanning capabilities. These features raise desktop
color laser finishing capabilities to a level previously only found in
monochrome printers and copiers.

-- The magicolor 2200 combines the company's industry-leading Crown(R) II
controller architecture for maximum performance, with a new-generation print
engine developed by Minolta, to bring to market the first MINOLTA-QMS
co-developed color laser printer.

-- The magicolor 2200 is a perfect choice for small- and mid-size network
workgroups within larger organizations and for small, self-contained businesses
that will find the printer's built-in features essential for productive color
printing.

Initially involved with controllers for printing bar codes and labels, it entered the laser printer business in the mid-1980s and set numerous records.  since the formation of MINOLTA-QMS Inc., this family of letter/A4 color laser printers A laser printer that prints in color using four toner cartridges (CMYK) of cyan, magenta, yellow and black. The colors are applied one at a time to the drum and are then adhered to the paper. See printer.  is designed to make printing more productive in network workgroup settings.

The magicolor 2200 series offers faster print speeds, stronger networking and administration and more choices in document handling to deliver high-quality documents fast, while improving office workflow.

"The new magicolor 2200 combines MINOLTA-QMS' industry-leading controller technology with the very latest in print engine design from Minolta, demonstrating how, when working closely together, we can bring to market printers distinguished from competitors," said Jan Sundelin, senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing at MINOLTA-QMS.

"Users will discover that the magicolor 2200 isn't just fast, but offers conveniences for printing, such as duplexing, long-lasting consumables and intuitive management tools that will definitely save time and effort."

Improving Office Workflow

While print speed and throughput from the network are important and contribute to office workflow, the magicolor 2200 offers additional "convenience" features that can help printer users become more productive.

-- Higher Paper Input -- Offering up to 1,150 sheets of paper

input, the magicolor 2200 can be used frequently without

constant refilling by printer users.

-- Duplexing -- Two-sided printing, or duplexing, can be

performed on all magicolor 2200 printer models. An automatic

duplexer can be purchased optionally and is a standard feature

on the DP model. Duplexing not only saves paper and paper

storage costs, it allows users to develop two-sided reports,

newsletters, brochures and other documents in full color.

-- Addressable Reachable. When something is addressable, it can be identified and manipulated independently of its surroundings. For example, screen pixels and RAM memory are addressable. Each of the screen's picture elements can be individually turned on and off, and each of the memory's bytes can be  Mailbox A simulated mailbox in the computer that holds e-mail messages. Mailboxes are stored on disk as a file of messages, a database of messages or as an individual file for each message. The standard mailboxes are usually In, Out, Trash and Junk (Spam).  Unit -- The magicolor 2200 can be equipped

with a mailbox option that has five 50-sheet addressable bins.

An individual user can print different jobs to each bin or a

group of users can each be assigned a mail bin to which they

send their documents. This makes it easy to distinguish

between print jobs.

-- Color Copying and Scanning -- Add an SC-210 digital color

copier/scanner to the magicolor 2200 and transform it into a

convenient color copier. This combination allows users to

create full-color duplicates from any hard copy document. A

25-sheet Automatic Document Feeder In multifunction or all-in-one printers, fax machines, photocopiers and scanners, Automatic Document Feeder or ADF is a feature which takes several pages and feeds the paper one page at a time into the scanner, allowing the user to scan (and thereby copy, print, or fax)  is available for

reproducing multiple page documents. The SC-210 can also be

connected to a PC and used as a scanner. This option not only

makes the most of a user's time, it maximizes the printer

investment.

-- User-Easy Management Tools -- A bundle of printer management

tools included with the magicolor 2200 makes it one of the

easiest color laser printers to use. Individuals can check on

their print jobs and review printer status in a number of

different ways, including through their Internet browser See Web browser.  using

the CrownView(TM) printer-based Web page and through the

MINOLTA-QMS printer driver.

Performance for Network Printing

-- Faster Print Speeds -- Using a Minolta print engine, the

magicolor 2200 can print pages as fast as 20 per minute in

black and white and five per minute in color. Some business

workgroups using a mid-range monochrome Also called "mono." Refers to display screens that use one foreground and one background color; for example, black on white, white on black or green on black. The first terminals connected to mainframes and minicomputers were monochrome, and monochrome screens were widely used on early  printer can replace it

with a magicolor 2200 for faster printing with the added

advantage of color not of the white race; - commonly meaning, esp. in the United States, of negro blood, pure or mixed.

printers can also benefit from using a magicolor 2200 color

laser. Not only is it more cost effective than a color ink

jet, the magicolor 2200 offers significantly better

performance and higher consumable A material that is used up and needs continuous replenishment, such as paper and toner. "The low-tech end of the high-tech field!"  and paper capacity.

-- Fast Throughput -- Crown II technology is a powerful printer

architecture that performs behind-the-scenes action to ensure

print jobs are processed and printed at maximum speed. Even

when multiple users are printing at the same time, jobs are

efficiently moved from the network through the printer.

-- Network Proficiency -- The magicolor 2200 is equipped with

both a "Plug and Play" parallel and auto-sensing 10/100BaseTX

Ethernet interfaces. The Ethernet interface is particularly

effective in that it supports both 10-megabit network LANs as

well as Fast Ethernet An earlier name for 100Mbps Ethernet. See 100Base-T.

-- Multiple Language Support -- Today's business Today's Business is a show on CNBC that aired in the early morning, 5 to 7AM ET timeslot, hosted by Liz Claman and Bob Sellers, and it was replaced by Wake Up Call on Feb 4, 2002.  workgroups are

rarely homogenous homogenous - homogeneous . Instead, users are printing from a variety

of different platforms and using an assortment of software

applications. To sustain these types of user groups, each

magicolor 2200 model supports a number of printing languages,

including PostScript, PCL (Printer Command Language) The page description language for HP LaserJet printers. It has become a de facto standard used in many printers and typesetters. PCL Level 5, introduced with the LaserJet III in 1990, also supports Compugraphic's Intellifont scalable fonts.  and PDF (Portable Document Format) The de facto standard for document publishing from Adobe. On the Web, there are countless brochures, data sheets, white papers and technical manuals in the PDF format. .

High-Quality Output

-- Up to 1200 dpi -- The magicolor 2200 doesn't sacrifice quality

for performance. The printer offers up to 1200 dpi resolution

for impressive documents -- from general reports and letters

to presentations and brochures.

-- Automated Color Control -- The last thing printer users want

to be concerned with is adjusting color settings on a printer

to achieve the output they expect. The magicolor 2200 has an

automated color control system that includes AIC AIC Association des Infermières Canadiennes.  (Automatic

Image Calibration). A closed-loop color correction Altering the colors in an image in order to print or display it properly or for special effects. Depending on the application, color correction can be a significant problem if the resulting image must be approved or a purchase is made because of color choice.  system, AIC

optimizes the printer to produce the most consistent,

high-quality output every time.

-- Flexible Printing -- The magicolor 2200 supports a wide

variety of print media commonly used in the office

environment, including paper, transparencies, envelopes and

thick stocks. The printer's multipurpose mul·ti·pur·pose
