MINNEGASCO COMPLETES PROPERTY EXCHANGE WITH MIDWEST GAS

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Minnegasco announced today that it has completed a property exchange with Midwest Gas, thereby gaining 75,000 natural gas customers in 41 Minnesota communities located north and west of the Twin Cities.
Gary N. Petersen, president and chief operating officer of Minnegasco, said that final regulatory approval for the transaction has been obtained and that Midwest Gas' Minnesota customers would become Minnegasco customers effective Sept. 1.
Last December Minnegasco signed an agreement to exchange its South Dakota properties and $38 million for the Minnesota properties of Midwest Gas, a utility of Midwest Resources, Sioux City, Iowa.
"This transaction fits our strategy of focusing resources on growth areas in Minnesota as the best way to position our company for the future," said Petersen. The new service territory is contiguous with Minnegasco's existing Minnesota service area. Minnegasco's South Dakota service area includes approximately 45,000 customers in 18 communities.
"We welcome our new customers to Minnegasco," says Petersen. "Minnegasco has a long standing commitment to bring reliable service and products to its customers and we look forward to serving our new area." Natural gas service will continue uninterrupted with the change, Petersen said. Information introducing Minnegasco and describing its programs and services is being mailed to its new customers.
Minnegasco's new service area includes communities in Anoka, Hennepin, Isanti, Kanabec, Meeker, Mille Lacs, Sherburne, Stearns and Wright counties. Communities in the seven-county metro area include Anoka, Blaine, Coon Rapids, Lino Lakes, Spring Lake Park, Champlin, Annandale, Buffalo and Monticello. Non-metro area communities in other counties include Cambridge, Braham, Milaca, Princeton, Big Lake, Elk River, Zimmerman and Kimball.
All Midwest Gas employees in Minnesota, about 100, have become Minnegasco employees, Petersen said.
After this transaction, Minnegasco, Minnesota's largest natural gas distribution company, serves more than 590,000 customers in approximately 200 Minnesota communities. Minnegasco, a division of Arkla, Inc., traces its history to the Minneapolis Gas Light Company, founded in 1870.
