MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL RECEIVES FIRST AUTOMATED SHIPPING CENTERS IN NATIONAL ROLL-OUT

MINNEAPOLIS, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- U-Ship, Inc., which manufactures and markets the 24-hour Automated Shipping Center, announced today that it has selected the Twin Cities area to introduce its revolutionary new shipping service technology. U-Ship's patented Automated Shipping Center is the first of its kind in the United States and allows customers access to UPS shipping services 24 hours a day.
The U-Ship Automated Shipping Center works much the same way as an automated teller machine (ATM). The customer enters the center and inserts a major credit card or U-Ship Corporate Card to begin the process. A video display prompts the customer to type in the necessary information such as the shipping or package destination. An electronic scale weighs the package next to a wall graph that identifies the package's dimensions for the customer. The system then prints a shipping label and the customer places the label on the package and sets it behind a security door. After the door closes, the package is captured in a secure holding area to await UPS pick up.
U-Ship developed the Automated Shipping Center in 1991 and brought the idea to UPS. After a successful year-long trial period at Randall Foods in Eau Claire, Wis., U-Ship decided it was time to expand nationally.
According to U-Ship Chief Executive Officer Bruce H. Senske, U-Ship has signed contracts to place at least 25 of its units in Minneapolis/St. Paul and the surrounding area. "People can begin using the U-Ship Automated Shipping Centers today," Senske said.
"We are very excited that U-Ship's Automated Shipping Centers are making their national debut in the Twin Cities. Our research shows that this area has a high demand for shipping services and that 24-hour-a-day convenience is a real value to the consumer," he said.
Senske said he fully expects the company to be a world leader in automated shipping services. "This is a 6.6 billion package a year industry," he said, "and UPS alone ships more than 11 million parcels a day. Our service provides customers with an economical and convenient way to use UPS services in a manner that fits our customers' busy and often hectic schedules."
The U-Ship Automated Shipping Centers are currently operating in Bloomington, Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, Burnsville, Elk River, Mounds View, North St. Paul, Shakopee and White Bear Lake, Minn., as well as in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls, Wis. Additional U-Ship centers will be opening soon in the Twin Cities and in West Central Wisconsin.
U-Ship, Inc. manufactures and operates self-service, small-package shipping stations called Automated Shipping Centers. The centers provide 24-hour, fully automated service to users.
Automated Shipping Centers are located in a variety of sites including convenience stores, industrial parks and carrier service terminals. U-Ship common stock is traded on the Minneapolis/St. Paul local over-the-counter market.
