The older kids, barely 6 years old themselves and just starting to read, were excited to share their knowledge - and their toys - as they hosted a party for the little kids.

``We're giving toys to other preschoolers that don't have that many toys,'' said Ethan Reynolds, who brought his dinosaur robot. ``We're showing compassion.''

The party at the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Boys & Girls Club Girls Club is a 2002 American television series created by David E. ``This was nice,'' said Marissa Smith, 6. ``We were sharing with them our toys that we don't need any more.''

All week long the first-graders brought to school the toys they had outgrown, the ones they were certain would be enjoyed by littler kids in a Head Start preschool program.

``I had fun reading to the kids and taking pictures,'' Marissa said. ``I'm glad they got the toys.''

Megan Soucy agreed with her classmate.

``All the children don't have that much toys,'' Soucy said. ``It's good that we give them our toys. They're toys that I've outgrown and I really don't need them''

As they arrived, preschoolers were given a fuzzy ball and reindeer reindeer, ruminant mammal, genus Rangifer, of the deer family, found in arctic and subarctic regions of Eurasia and North America. The two-hour party, complete with cookies and milk, came with a very special surprise - a visit from Santa Claus Santa Claus: see Nicholas, Saint.

One by one, the young hosts and guests sat upon Santa's lap and listed their Christmas wishes for toy fire trucks, Barbie dolls and scooters.

They also got to choose several gifts from the scores of toys and books brought in by the first-graders.

Four-year-old Alex Cuadra chose a tractor and a shiny red fireman's hat.

``I liked it when I talk to Santa,'' he said, playing with his new toys and wearing his new hat proudly.

Theresa Rupp, a mother with the Head Start day care program, found the event a touching experience.
