The Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  couple didn't seem to mind the distractions buzzing around their wedding ceremony televised for several million viewers of ABC's ``Good Morning America Good Morning America is a weekday morning news show that is broadcast on the ABC television network. The show was adapted from The Morning Exchange, a morning show created by and airing on the ABC affiliate in Cleveland, Ohio, and was launched nationally as .'' In fact, not even the storm clouds looming overhead could dampen their mood.

This was their day.

Just after 8 a.m., Beeuwsaert, 33, a personnel analyst for the city of Glendale, began her walk down a platform aisle built outside the ABC studios ABC Studios is Disney-ABC Television Group's television production company. The Sierra Madre resident was welcomed by her nervous bridegroom, Abundiz, 47, a retired firefighter who lives in Rancho Cucamunga.

His former fire chief gave the bride away. On the lapel of his tuxedo, Abundiz wore a red ribbon in memory of three New York New York, state, United States

Beeuwsaert remained composed throughout the vows, exchanging of the rings (carried down the aisle on the back of a Dalmatian) and the big moment the crowd in Times Square had been waiting for: the kiss. Abundiz took his bride in his arms, then swung her around in a stylistic note as GMA GMA

A message congratulating the couple lit up on the Nasdaq stock exchange across the street. People in the high-rise buildings surrounding the Square waved signs like ``Hope you live happily ever after'' out of windows. Taxi cab horns honked.

On June 1, viewers chose the couple as winners of the wedding contest sponsored by ``Good Morning America'' and WeddingChannel.com because of their heart-felt love story.

A month after meeting in 1998, Abundiz was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Beeuwsaert supported him through radiation therapy and the stroke he suffered just last year.

This March, the couple were engaged. A few weeks later, Abundiz, whose cancer is now in remission, wrote an account of his love story and entered it into the wedding contest.

Part of the prize was a honeymoon in England and Ireland, which Abundiz and Beeuwsaert asked ``Good Morning America'' to cash in and donate to the families of the fallen firefighters after hearing about the tragedy.

But the program insisted the couple go on their honeymoon.

Instead, ``Good Morning America'' surprised the newlyweds by donating to the families $10,000 on the Abundizes' behalf. It was presented as a gift to the couple after the wedding.
