MILLENNIUM GALA.An electrifying lineup of dancers is scheduled to perform on February 14, 2000, in a Millennium International Ballet Gala at the State Theater at Lincoln Center. The artistic director of the gala is Nadia Veselova-Tencer, who has directed a number of international ballet galas, most recently in Cannes and Paris. Scheduled to dance in the New York City New York City: see New York, city. New York City City (pop., 2000: 8,008,278), southeastern New York, at the mouth of the Hudson River. The largest city in the U.S. gala (at press time) are Diana Vishneva and Farukh Ruzimatov from the Kirov Ballet; Anna Antonicheva and Dmitri Belogolovtsev from the Bolshoi Ballet; Darcey Bussell from the Royal Ballet; Angel Corella, Vladimir Malakhov, and Genadi Savelier from American Ballet Theatre American Ballet Theatre, one of the foremost international dance companies of the 20th cent. It was founded in 1937 as the Mordkin Ballet and reorganized as the Ballet Theatre in 1940 under the direction of Lucia Chase and Rich Pleasant. ; Agnes Letestu and Jose Martinez from the Paris Opera Ballet The Paris Opéra Ballet is the official ballet company of the Opéra national de Paris, otherwise known as the Palais Garnier, though known more popularly simply as the Paris Opéra. ; Lucia Lacarra and Cyril Pierre from San Francisco Ballet San Francisco Ballet, or SFB, is a San Francisco, USA based ballet company, founded in 1933 as part of San Francisco Opera Ballet.
