Local volunteers and cartoon celebrities will head the 5K walk and 1K fun walk for kids scheduled for Sept. 28.

The 2002 American Heart Walk Team Recruitment chairman and chairwomen are Ernie Jackson of the Newhall School District The Newhall School District is a school district in the Santa Clarita Valley that serves the Valencia and Newhall communities within the city of Santa Clarita, California, as well as the Stevenson Ranch community in unincorporated Los Angeles County. , Karen Miller of Princess Cruises, Gail Ortiz of the city and Amy Means of Magic Mountain.

The annual American Heart Walk raises money for research and education of stroke and heart disease by the American Heart Association. Five Heart Walks will take place around Southern California in September as part of the fund-raising and awareness campaign.
