 MID-AMERICAN WASTE SYSTEMS, INC. RECEIVES LANDFILL PERMIT
 CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio, June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Mid-American Waste Systems, Inc. (NYSE: MAW) announced today that it has received the final permit for its Lee County, S.C. landfill. The site, located in Bishopville, S.C., is 45 miles from Columbia, and 100 miles from Myrtle Beach.
 The Lee County Regional Landfill & Recycling Facility is the first greenfield landfill permitted in South Carolina since 1985. The facility will be built using a composite liner system, including both a clay liner and a double synthetic liner. It will occupy 200 acres within a 1200 acre property, and will meet or exceed all of the state's environmental regulations. The site is initially allowed to accept 1600 tons per day, and has a permitted capacity in excess of 20 million tons. Construction will begin within the next several weeks, and is expected to be complete by the first quarter of 1993.
 Mid-American, headquartered in Canal Winchester, Ohio, is a publicly held company listed on the New York Stock Exchange and trades under the symbol MAW. The company is engaged in the non-hazardous solid waste management business at 49 locations in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, New Jersey, Massachusetts, South Carolina, and Colorado.
