MICROVI BIOTECH Gains Significant Support for Pilot-Scale Demonstration of In-situ Patented Process for Destruction of MTBE at Port Hueneme, California.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- MICROVI BIOTECH, LLC (Microvi), the holder of patents and other biotechnologies for cost-effective water decontamination announced that it has received significant support for its pilot-scale demonstration project funded by National Science Foundation (NSF). NSF's main thrust is to provide real-world platforms for validation of exemplary research, and also to encourage private sector commercialization of socially beneficial technologies.

In the past year, Microvi has received significant support for its unique biotechnology solutions from key industry players including Pratt & Whitney (a division of United Technologies Corporation), the American Petroleum Institute (API), and the Department of Defense (DOD). All supporters are in agreement regarding the potential value of the technology. In a written statement from Gregory Jones, Pratt & Whitney General Manager, he says, "Our preliminary discussions with Dr. Shirazi indicate that cost savings and improved performance may result from the use of the MicroBead Technology when compared to other biological remediation systems currently employed at various industrial companies." Dr. Bruce Bauman of Regulatory and Scientific Affairs at API says, "We anticipate that this new technology will successfully biodegrade MTBE to acceptably low levels... without formation of any hazardous by-products and could be a valuable contribution to the MTBE "toolbox" of remediation technologies. Lastly, William Major, DOD Port Hueneme site program manager and DOD NETTS Team Leader comments, "your innovative technology for in-situ bioremediation of MTBE is a very nice fit for the types of the projects we currently support at the Port Hueneme NETTS test site".

The pilot investigation was awarded after the successful demonstration of Microvi's patented biotechnology for complete destruction / co-destruction of MTBE, TBA, and Benzene. This pilot investigation was designed totally by Microvi and specifically addresses the destruction of MTBE, TBA, and Benzene to non-detectable level.
