MICROSOFT TAKES ON NETSCAPE : UPDATED EXPLORER DUE OUT TUESDAY.Byline: Heather Green Bloomberg Business News Microsoft on Tuesday will release a new version of its Internet browsing software, part of its strategy to trounce rival Netscape Communications. The software is the third version of Microsoft's year-old Internet Explorer Microsoft's Web browser, which comes with Windows starting with Windows 98. Commonly called "IE," versions for Mac and Unix are also available. Internet Explorer is the most widely used Web browser on the market. It has also been the browser engine in AOL's Internet access software. that lets computer users navigate the World Wide Web. It is the biggest upgrade and, more importantly, puts Microsoft's browser browser Software that allows a computer user to find and view information on the Internet. The first text-based browser for the World Wide Web became available in 1991; Web use expanded rapidly after the release in 1993 of a browser called Mosaic, which used on par technically with Netscape's market-leading Navigator See Netscape Navigator, Netscape and Norton Navigator. Netscape shares fell 2-5/8 to 44-5/8, while Microsoft's shares fell -3/4 to 124-1/2.
