MICRONPC DEBUTS TRANSPORT X1000/V2000 NOTEBOOK COMPUTERS.

MPC, a Gores Technology Group company, has debuted the TransPort X1000 and TransPort V2000 notebook computers. These products are the latest addition to MPC's line of notebook PCs. The TransPort X1000 offers maximum performance in a desktop-replacement design, while the TransPort V2000 offers a basic feature set at an aggressive price.

TransPort X1000

The high-performance TransPort X1000 is designed to be used as a primary desktop replacement. Its "three-spindle" design includes a fixed floppy drive, hard drive, and a modular or removable optical device. "The TransPort X1000 is the ultimate desktop-replacement solution for mobile professionals who seek performance, flexibility and security," said Paul Petersen, MPC vice president of product development and marketing.

To address the growing security concerns of many IT managers, MPC has also integrated its unique biometric fingerprint-recognition capability into the TransPort X1000. Biometric systems offer a high level of data security, and are much more difficult to breach than traditional password user-authentication systems. This benefit provides increased security for an organization's intellectual property, as well as for confidential customer and personnel information. MPC is the only U.S. PC manufacturer to integrate a multi-layered user authentication system using fingerprint recognition into its notebook computers.

The TransPort X1000 supports:

-- Intel Pentium 4 processors-M up to 2.40 GHz

-- Up to 1024MB, 266MHz DDR Memory

-- A modular device bay that allows for peripheral options such as a second Hard Drive or a DVD/CD-RW combo

-- Availability in two LCD sizes: 14.1" XGA or 15" SXGA+

-- 32MB or 64MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 dedicated graphics solution

-- Integrated dual mode antenna for 802.11a/b wireless networking

-- An internal bridge battery, which allows for the swapping of primary batteries while the system is in suspend mode

TransPort V2000

With configurations starting at $1,199.00, the TransPort V2000 offers a basic feature set for the budget-sensitive user. The TransPort V2000 is the ideal computing solution for businesses looking for an aggressively priced notebook system, or K-12 schools looking for a notebook platform with which to implement a wireless computing environment. "The V2000 is a value-oriented system which can work as a great fleet-type product for corporate customers," said Petersen. "With the availability of a variety of peripherals, MPC stays true to our configure-to-order promise."

The TransPort V2000 supports:

-- Intel Pentium 4 Processors up to 2.53GHz or Intel Celeron Processors

-- Up to 1024MB DDR SDRAM

-- 15" XGA TFT LCD

-- Four USB 2.0 ports

-- Four application launch buttons (all user defined)

-- Integrated dual mode antenna for 802.11a/b wireless networking
