MICRONICS APPOINTS STEVEN P. KITROSSER CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD; COMPANY ALSO ELECTS THREE NEW OUTSIDE DIRECTORS

 FREMONT, Calif., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Micronics Computers Inc. (NASDAQ: MCRN) today announced that Steven P. Kitrosser has been appointed chairman of the board. Kitrosser, currently chief executive officer of Micronics, will assume his new position as chairman and chief executive officer immediately.
 W.M. Selbach, outgoing chairman, stated: "Steve has been doing an outstanding job since taking the reins as CEO in November 1992. It is our opinion that Micronics is well-positioned to compete in its market and has a clear sense of direction for the future. Therefore, I believe that the time is right to make an orderly transition of leadership. I wish Steve well in his new position."
 Micronics also announced that its shareholders have elected three new outside directors for the company: W. Charles Hazel, a partner with Bay Management Co., a venture capital firm; Leon Malmed, vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for Sundisk Corp.; and George D. Wells, president of Exar Corp. Prior to joining Sundisk Corp., Malmed served as executive vice president of sales and marketing for SyQuest Technology. From 1985 to 1992 Wells served as president and chief operating officer, and later as vice chairman, for LSI Logic Corp. before he joined Exar Corp. last March.
 Also elected to the board was Dean Chang, senior vice president of research and development and strategic planning for Micronics. Chang had previously served as a director of Micronics from the company's inception until December 1991.
 The other members of the current board include: William Shelander, general manager of JAFCO America Ventures; Minsiu Huang, vice president of operations for Micronics; and Frank W. Lin, former president and chief executive officer for Micronics.
 Micronics Computers Inc. is an industry leader in providing high- quality advanced system boards for high-performance personal computers sold by OEMs, distributors and value-added resellers. A system board contains the microprocessor, supporting logic circuitry and memory components that form the core of a personal computer. The company sells primarily to direct marketers and other marketing-oriented personal computer vendors.
