MICROCOM ANNOUNCES VERSION 2.1 OF VIREX FOR THE PC

MICROCOM ANNOUNCES VERSION 2.1 OF VIREX FOR THE PC
 NORWOOD, Mass., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Microcom(R) Inc.,

(NASDAQ: MNPI) developer of PC and Macintosh connectivity and utility products, announced today version 2.1 of Virex for the PC, its popular anti-virus software for the IBM(R) PC and compatibles. Virex for the PC 2.1 is a comprehensive guard against the threat of DOS- and Windows-based computer viruses. Version 2.1 now offers a new VPCScan(tm) interface, the ability to be loaded into high memory, and the inclusion of over 100 new virus detectors.
"This upgrade makes Virex more customizable to individual user needs," said Robert Capon, general manager of Microcom's Utilities Product Group. "In version 2.1 we offers users a menu-driven scanner interface and direct access from within Windows, complying with their personal preferences and needs."
Keeping up with users' needs, Virex for the PC 2.1 can be loaded in high-memory. By utilizing QEMM or DOS 5.0, users can save valuable base memory space by loading Virex for the PC's terminate and stay resident (TSR) programs into high memory. This allows users to allocate more base memory to other applications.
Maintaining Microcom's philosophy and dedication to keeping users virus free, Virex for the PC 2.1 contains over 100 new virus detectors, including a detector and disinfector for Michaelangelo, a new widely spread Stoned variant.
Virex for the PC is updated quarterly with the ability to detect and repair files infected by newly discovered viruses. Registered users who purchased Virex for the PC after June 30, 1991 will receive a free upgrade as part of their six-month free subscription service. Users who purchased Virex for the PC prior to that date can purchase the upgrade for $25.
Technical support is available through the Utilities Help Hotline. Additional support and information is available from Microcom's UPGate(tm) BBS by calling 919-419-1602 (8 databits, 1 stopbit, no parity).
Shipping immediately, Virex for the PC 2.1 is available for $99.95. For more product information please contact 919-490-1277.
