MICROCOM ANNOUNCES SETTLEMENT OF SECURITIES LITIGATION

NORWOOD, Mass., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Microcom Inc., (NASDAQ: MNPI) announced today that it has settled its class action shareholder suit for $6 million, a substantial portion of which will be funded by insurance. The settlement is subject to approval by the United States District Court in Boston after notice to shareholders and a hearing.
The suit alleged securities violations by the company and its officers. Microcom believes it had meritorious defenses to all claims but decided to settle the suit in order to avoid the continuing distraction of its management and the ongoing expense of litigation.
The company will take a one-time charge of approximately 30 cents per share against earnings for the current quarter ending March 31, 1993.
