MICRO DECISIONWARE DATABASE GATEWAY(TM) FOR ORACLE ENTERS BETA; EXTENDS LEADERSHIP IN PROVIDING VENDOR-NEUTRAL ENTERPRISE INFORMATION FRAMEWORK

WASHINGTON, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Micro Decisionware (MDI) today announced that its Database Gateway(TM) for Oracle, AIX version has entered beta at several sites.
General availability is planned for September. Designed to address the enterprise information needs of Oracle users, the Oracle Gateway provides ODBC and DB-Library client applications open and transparent access to Oracle LAN RDBMSs. The Database Gateway integrates Oracle into its support of enterprise data sources such as DB2, SQL/DS, SQL/400, VSAM, IMS and many others. Pricing starts at $10,000.
MDI Database Gateway for Oracle Enables Users to Integrate All
Leading LAN and Mainframe Data Sources
"Access to oracle's LAN-based Relational Database Management Systems is very important to our customers," said MDI president and CEO Michael H. Forster. "Currently, MDI customers can access LAN-based data in Microsoft's SQL Server and IBM's DB2/2. With the addition of the Oracle Gateway, customers will be able to easily integrate all of the leading LAN and mainframe data sources -- both relational and non-relational."
Vendor-Neutrality Means Freedom of Choice for Users
According to Forster, the Database gateway for Oracle further demonstrates MDI's genuine commitment to open architecture. "The vendor-neutral design of our Enterprise Information Framework enables customers to retain the freedom to choose the front-end tools, LAN RDBMSs and mainframe data sources best suited to their needs. MDI's Enterprise Information Framework brings order to the chaotic mix of APIs and protocols, enabling users to achieve maximum results at minimum cost."
 The MDI Enterprise Information Framework:
Data Access is Only the Beginning
Micro Decisionware pioneered enterprise data connectivity with its Database Gateway. Access Management, though, represents just the "tip of the iceberg" in implementing real-world client-server applications.
End-users must be able to move data bi-directionally from server to server all the while keeping it synchronized and secure. MDI calls this "Copy Management," and introduced this capability with the Transfer facility of the Database Gateway. With the addition of the InfoPumpTM, MDI has enhanced its Copy Management function by enabling users to schedule and synchronize the movement of data between LAN RDBMSs and mainframe databases. This adjunct product to the Database Gateway brings a host of capabilities to the Oracle environment. Through a rich scripting language, it cleans and combines heterogeneous data so that it can be placed on the most optimal platform for access or so that it can disseminate data to numerous targets.
MDI: The Choice of a Third of the Fortune 1000
