MICHIGAN NOTEBOOK: A ROSEY EDWARDS MEMORY.Byline: - Walter Hammerwold BEVERLY HILLS - If Michigan receiver Braylon Edwards needs inspiration heading into the Rose Bowl game Thursday, he can look to his father and the legacy he left behind in Pasadena. Stan Edwards, who played both fullback and tailback for Michigan from 1977-80, parlayed his success at Michigan to an NFL career with the Houston Oilers and Detroit Lions. But his most memorable game came in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, 1981. Edwards carried the ball 19 times for 68 yards in the Wolverines' 23-6 victory over Washington. He iced the game with a 1-yard touchdown run with four minutes remaining to provide the final margin. It was Michigan's first Rose Bow victory in 16 years. ``He said there's no game like it, from the standpoint of the Super Bowl or any game,'' Braylon Edwards said. --Getting ready: Michigan coach Lloyd Carr put on his game face Saturday and banned media contact with his players. The move is status quo for the Wolverines. The media are barred from practice in Ann Arbor, Mich., during the regular season and traditionally have limited contact with the team.
